Upgrading your car is an exciting time but not everyone’s budget can afford a brand new car. What options do you have when you want the brand new car without overpaying?
Today I share with you the 3 options that give Aussies the same new car feeling without having to overpay.
Buy a Demo car
Demo cars are basically brand new cars. They are called a demo (short for demonstrator) because they are used for test drives by other buyers. Another reason why new cars might become a demo is they have been driven by dealership staff for some time.
Every dealership has demo cars in stock, which they sell after using them as a demo. Generally, these cars have low kilometers and are in really good condition.
Demo cars are also priced to sell. The dealers don’t want them hanging around for too long and replace it with newer cars. This means you can get a fairly good deal if you buy a demo car instead of getting a brand new one.
Also, these cars are already registered. You won’t have to wait for weeks (sometimes even months) to get behind the wheel. With a demo, you also get most of the new car warranty because they are basically brand new cars.
It’s also good to know that many of these cars will have extra options on them which may not be included in the standard brand new car.
Buy an ex Hire Car
Another option you have when looking for a brand new car is an ex Hire Car. Like demo cars, hire-car companies sell their cars after 12-24 months. I am talking about companies like Hertz, Eurocar and Budget Car Rentals. They sell these cars back to the dealers so you can buy it directly from them.
Some of these hire cars have only a few thousand on the clock. Dealers like to sell them as soon as they get them in stock. Because of this, they are priced to be a bargain for the buyers.
Many dealers will also include some extra options or free servicing to get buyers interested. You still get most of the new car warranty as they were on the road for a short period of time.
It’s worth checking the car logbook and service history to make sure that the last owner was the hire car company and that it has been fully serviced. Another small check is to make sure the car comes with 2 sets of keys – because every new car does.
Generally, these cars, like the demos, are in good nick but it always pays to do a thorough inspection. If you are not confident about inspecting them yourself, you can always use services like Redbook Inspect or RACV (each state have their own club – NRMA, RACQ, etc.) for inspection.
Ex hire cars are great when it comes to getting the new car feeling without overpaying – these savings are generally in the thousands!
Get a great deal on a new car
If you are still after that brand new car without overpaying, you can always get a great deal by knowing what Aussies are paying at the dealerships.
Knowing what other Aussies paid will give you the confidence to get the perfect deal. You can save thousands without overpaying.
With carloop’s free sold price reports, you can find out what other Aussies have paid, and compare it to the dealers asking price.
Quite often by knowing what others have paid, you can get a brand new car for a lot cheaper than the dealer demo cars. This will undoubtedly save you uncomfortable negotiations with car salesmen.
There are several ways to get behind the wheel of a brand new car without overpaying. Looking at demo, ex-hire cars or just knowing how to get a good deal on a new car, you can still get the new car experience without splurging too much.
